supernumerary rainbow in Cracow
transit of Mercury in front of the Sun 2016

On the left image there is a supernumerary rainbow – a rarely seen effect caused not only by common reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets, but also by interference. The rainbow was seen in Kraków on the 25th of April 2016 in the afternoon.

Right image shows transit of Mercury in front of the Sun on the 9th of May 2016. The picture was taken at 15:55 (local time) using Panasonic DMC-FZ45 with Baader 5.0 foil filter.

In both images the contrast was strongly increased.
